SAPPI - Kruger Park - Tree & Alien Encounter Weekend
This is an invitation to a unique, rustic, bush experience.
The Alien Invader Task Group is excited to announce the coming of this special event, thanks to a generous sponsorship received from SAPPI to make it possible.
EVENT DATES: Thurs 23 to Sunday 26 August 2007
WHERE: Doispan N of Pretoriuskop - in the bush
COST: R1930 each
HOW MANY PAYING PARTICIPANTS? 14 only!
ACCOMMODATION: Small, 2-person dome tents + camping matrasses on the ground
MEALS: Simple but healthy camp meals supplied. Tea, coffee + juice will be supplied.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Be prepared to:
- walk in the bush!
- drive on the back of a large, open truck!
- learn about the Alien Invader Problem facing Kruger!
- learn to identify major tree species in the bush
- sit around a campfire at night with no fence around you!
- appreciate and learn more about, the incredible African night sky
- sleep in 2-person dome tents on a matress on the ground!
- use luxury, portable loo’s on a trailer in the bush!
- enjoy starlight in the absence of electricity
- facilities will be basic, the experience will be “5 000 Star”
WHAT TO DO TO BOOK?
1) At this early stage, all interested persons can only register on a waiting list (with Clive Webber) from which the allocation of the lucky 14 selected few will be notified of their successful application. Couples (or two friends) are welcome to book - then you know who you will be sharing a tent with! Deadline for this application is: ASAP!
2) When notified of your acceptance (after 15 June), your position on the weekend will only be secured by your prompt payment (of the R1930) by 6 July as per instructions that you will receive.
DRAFT PROGRAMME
Thur 23 Aug : Guests to arrive from mid afternoon (eg not later than 16:30)
Entry: Via Phabeni gate. Conservation fee to be inclusive of the R1930 cost paid in advance.
Supper will be supplied.
Fri : Breakfast, lunch & supper supplied. Informal talks, walks & drive (on AIS truck) in the bush - learn about trees and view alien invaders. Afternoon to go via Skukuza - time for guests to shower in Skukuza ablution facilities before returning to Doispan for supper & talks around the fire.
Sat : Similar programme to Friday - route via Pretoriuskop camp for showers in the afternoon.
Sun : Relax in camp + short bush walk.. Brunch, guests depart by about midday.
