near skukuza. saw about 20 impressive bulls around skukuza and berg en dal in 3 days! in july this year. will try find addo bulls from december 2006 as well. east cape parks board a;lso have some small parks with many BIG bulls

my 8 year old daughter took this stunning pic of a kudu jumping over my vehicle's lights as we tried to make it back to skukuza gate before closure. farmers in the eastern cape will tell you how kudu jump over your lights at night!!! often damaging your windscreen

Hi p@m. yes the east Cape Kudu is now considered a separate race from the normal Southern Kudu we all know from Kruger, Zim and Namibia etc. They dont have the horn length of those Limpopo Valley Monsters but they have lovely dark haired beards and their coats can get much darker tha Kruger. Overseas hunters with the normal Kudu in their trophy rooms come to the East Cape to add the East Cape Kudu to their collections

The longest Kudu Horns (World Record No 1 Rowland Ward )
are 72 " (6ft ) along the curl. They werent shot by a hunter but were picked up as part of a carcass by a professional Hunter and his Spanish Client in the hunting concessions SW of the Limpopo River in Mocambique. This area now lies in the Transfrontier Park. Thats HUGE. My biggest Kudu was a whopper 58" which I took in 1964 as a 13 yr old hunter in Sabi Sands . Kudu curls go up to 2.5 curls but with big ones like the 2 mentioned above with long ivory tips they start splaying out for curl no 3. Did you know every kudu bull can see the tips of his horns at anytime by looking through the curls. Take any set of Kudu horns and look down from the tip through the curls and you will see the eye socket. I took 2 massive East cape Kudu this morning in Addo which made up for just missing the lions (This variety has longer beards but shorter horns than the Limpopo and Zambezi Basin Bulls)...I'll post one here when I get time...glad I was able to help

Here is that beaut East Cape Kudu Bull I promised in the post above. Look at his thick neck flared nostrils, radar ears and deep deep chest and the muscled up shoulder caused by negotiating the hilly country of Addo and the East Cape in General. He also has shorter horns than a similar sized Limpopo Valley Kudu but his beard and general coloration is much superior to a lowveld bull

The story of the white kudu is not one from the 80s only, guys! Dianne, Leonie2, our guides Philip and Masocha and I saw a completely white young male on a morning walk along the Sweni river on Sunday 1 June!

It was such a beautiful and magical sighting that had our hearts pumping. Our guides had never even heard of white kudu and I only found this forum thread now.. The white kudu male was almost the same size as the two adult (normally coloured) females that it associated with. They didn't seem to regard him as anything special.

Our sighting was perhaps 35-40km from the Tshokwane area where Pieter Steyn, Bucky and mafortini saw the white kudu in the 80s and it seems that both males at least have to be related. Are we going to see The White Kudus of Sweni after the White Lions of Timbavati?

Although we did not get a single decent picture we had great sightings of the white kudu running, peeking at us from behind a bush and galloping again. Truly a once-in-a lifetime privililedge to see such a special animal on foot!

I wonder if this Kudu is related?

This is the most unusual sighting we came across on Monday 7th April on the Rail road route S114. A partially leucistic female Kudu. Has anyone else seen her?

As i understand, from reading the forum, each twirl in a Kudu's horns represent 2.5 years.

Whats the most amount of turns you have ever seen in their horns.

I remember as a laatie being bout 10, my late father told me he was told by ranger, that he had seen a Kudu with 7 turns in his horns. Heck that must have been a huge bull and those horns must have been just as huge,

Joekin...2 anda half turns max..with some old ones curling out on the start of a 3rd curl..World Record = 72 inches along the curl picked up in the veld in mocambique...A kudu can always see the tip of his horns by looking right through the curl
