You'll have to get in touch with the camp itself, the manager has to OK it. Have a look a the contacts section of the Addo website and send them an e-mail or give them a call. Usually they can't supply extra bedding.

Thanks Suzz and Senyetse for the quick replies. I'll give the park a call.

Hi Debbie,
You definitely can't fit an extra mattress and person into a rondavel at Addo main camp. There is no extra space. For three people, you'll need a chalet with sleeper couch or forest cabin, or otherwise the luxury guesthouses.

We would like to try one of the rondawels with a view of the floodlit waterhole - does anyone have a suggestion for which one has the best view if we manage to book a specific one? Thanks.

Sorry can't help with which one has the best view, Carolynn, but here is a pic of the view from one.

Seems they are a popular choice for the view

Carolynn, I don't know from personal experience, but ours has been booked for us by a tour operator, and she said in an email "I have booked the rondawel with the best view, which according to them is No. 2. (I spoke to a lady called Nandipa)"

I hope she's right! :D If anyone knows differently please let us know, so I can try to get ours changed, and Carolynn won't blame me for misleading her!

Thanks DB, they do look very nice. Maybe Addo reception will give me advice on the best one for the view.

That's OK, carolynn. Please let me know if you learn otherwise.

Also it would be good to hear your experience of the rondawel. When's your trip? Presumably living so close you wouldn't bother to book too far ahead, unlike me. I booked in October 2008 for September 2009!

My personal favourites are #2 & #3. 2 is second closest to the hole and doesn't really look onto any other verandah so it is therefore preferred by me, but they are all good.

I love the rondawels - You can sit on your verandah and wait for the rhino - then walk to the underground hide for a close up look! Brilliant (if the rhino doesn't appear something else surely will! :D )

Thanks for the info. We were initially planning on spending Wed night there, but have decided to rather get there when the gates open and then come back in time to vote - had forgotten it was election day, there have been so many public holidays!! So our overnight trip is on ho;d for a while, but it sounds as though no 2 is the way to go - maybe next public holiday.. next week?

Hi carolynn!

We stayed in Hut No. 1 in 2007. Here are some views towards the waterhole.

But I remember that I thought we would have had an even better view from No. 2.

Thanks for sharing your pics, Lionspoon. We get so few photos from Addo compared to Kruger (yes, I know it's tiny in comparison), so it's really good to be able to see what to expect.

Were these taken from the veranda? What a great view you had of the waterhole! In what way would the view from No 2 be better? Surely No 1 is closer?

No. 1 is closer to the waterhole according to the camp map. And it indeed was. But there was a tree or huge hedge (which will have grown by now  ) that obscured the view from No. 1 a little when sitting on the verandah. No. 2 had a straight view. But as you said yourself: We still had a great view. The ellies were there when we arrived. By the time I had the camera up and running they were about to leave. The night pic shows the real distance to the waterhole. The other to pics were zoomed in (300 mm lens).

Hi there,
We will be visiting in Jan 2010 and will be staying in Chalets (CH2/4), Chalets (CH2S) & Cottage (CO2) respectively during our stay. I was wonderring if anybody could explain the differences to me ie free standing or not with own braai facility on stoep, aircon etc.

If, possible could somebody please send me a front view pic of these accommodation types.

Much appreciated.
