I last visited Addo for the first time in October 2010, so when the opportunity presented it self to be in Port Elizabeth for a 2 day meeting it was time for another visit. I flew in on Saturday morning, entered through the Colchester gate and stayed the Saturday in the forest cabins. I eventually had to leave by Sunday afternoon and made my way back to PE. The Saturday turned out to be over cast and the light was a real challenge at times. Sunday was a perfect day on many levels. Here is a series of images I took over the 2 days.

A number of female Amur Falcons were hunting mid air over open grassland.

This Bokmakierie was drying out after a brief downpour.

This Red-backed shrike gave me the run-around for most of th morning, but I eventually found one that was obliging

I'll leave it here for a while until we get a page turn again......tbc

Toureg! Just in time before I get on my way to Addo!
Wonderful pictures!

And I have to admit that I didn't know there were meerkats in Addo.
I don't think I have ever seen anybody else reporting them in their TR from Addo.
So I conclude they are not easily spotted. :hmz:
But I sure hope I should be so lucky to get to see them as well.

Hope the page will turn before Friday so that I can enjoy another episode. 8)

Superb photos, Toureg!

Meerkat is not uncommon in Addo, particularly in the Main Camp section. On my trips I have seen them more often than not, but definitely not always. Entertaining creatures to observe.

Looking forward to a few more photos.

Rick

Lovely pics, Touareg!

In winter, on cold mornings, many birds huddle on the shrubs next to the road, making easy models for photography.

Lionspoon, meerkat are seen quite often at Addo. Two favourite areas are 1) Around Woodlands waterhole -- I have seen them on the circular loop just east of the waterhole, before it branches off towards Carol's Rest; the other time they have been about 1 km from Woodlands on the first left loop towards Domkrag waterhole.. 2) There is usually a group around Hapoor waterhole. I often see them at the junction when you turn left on the dirt road back towards Spekboom waterhole, still within sight of Hapoor waterhole, on your right.

Hope you are lucky!

Touareg, enjoy the KTP!

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

Friedrich, thanks for that sound advice! Duly noted.

Touareg, I for one am very happy that you won't have much time
to post more tomorrow. Like that I get to enjoy more of your Addo photos!
Great stuff again.
