BGS you make an excellent point regarding it being about the event, not the venue. SANParks is not just KNP; there are 20 national parks, and they all need our support and exposure. This gives everyone an opportunity to broaden their 'SANParks horizon.'

As far as the argument about distance goes; many of us have to travel very far to get to KNP. I think this should be a give and take thing amongst members re the cricket. One year closer for some, the next further.

Regarding having a second event, I do not think we can expect SANParks to fund that.

Regarding sponsors, I do not know of any that would be affected.

Jannie, what treats did you guys have in mind for those attending the event at KTP? Such as where might the dinner be held? The braai? The cricket played?

I thought that the SANparks team was to be made up from SANparks employees only and that the fun side of the game would also prevail in the mens side. (Please correct me if Im wrong).
However my suggestion for forthcoming events would be to have a mixed side male/female made up from mite`s and parks personel as we do in action cricket.
Just my pennies worth.
I have never been to KTP and what a great excuse it will be to get there.

Sparrow, I agree with the points you make. I think it was both the first and second years at Skukuza, the forum men played the forum ladies. It was great fun to watch. Naturally the girls won. I think it has to be a good mix of fun matches as well as the more serious ones.

I know we agree to differ on this Hawk, I find the ladies v. ladies games ok, but the men v. ladies game was so contrived it became boring. I know I'm a cricketer, but maybe sparrow's idea of two mixed teams would be better if another game was needed for fun.

Regards the Mens' game, Skukuza Cricket Club maintain the ground, at no little effort, and I know from previous years that they only play so many games a season so want a 'propper' match, ie min 30 overs a side .
This year they had their strongest team since we played then, aparently eveyone was available. Fortunately the forum had a good team too.

The format for next year if at KTP seems to be a tournament over 3 days with more teams from other Sanparks. Having played against the KTP guys, these will not be fun games.

I think the point about the cricket is being lost. IMO it is a place for the mites to get to know the folks behind the kudu kop, as hawk said it is supposed to be a fun event. Why KNP? It closer for the majority and has the facilities in place to host the event.
I am all for community involvement but I am also realistic, I do not invite the whole neighbourhood to a family braai and feel the same about this.
A large part of this event's sucess was that it was two matches. We have tried multiple matches and the result was not the best.
To think the odd extra bums in beds can begin to cover the costs of hosting the event is like thinking we made money from the soccer The 20 parks in the Sanparks folder has mostly their own HRS any promotion ideas should be run through them, the forum is the VHR's park and I am sure any request for assistance would be considered.

Sparks, my opinion with regard to KNP being closer to the majority is that there is a whole group of people on these forums who have never been able to entertain the idea of attending the cricket because it is held in KNP. They do deserve a turn for the event to be held close to home for them.

I think it will be a mistake to take away an event that the forums has done so well!
(and I'm supposed to be young and progressive in my thinking, right? ).
Hows about the CT Mites organize something of their own. As has been suggested by others :D The Rugby at soccer at KTP. Cricket at Skukuza is special and it just won't be the same :(

There are too few major Mite meets at the moment :hmz: There can't be any harm in having some more

On the other hand, what about the cricketers who have played over the last 6 years, the cricket match being the backbone of the event?
What if they cannot make the trip to KTP?
What about Skukuza Cricket Club, they are now one fixture light in their calendar and being a different week and the time and distance may not be able to travel?

Hope this doesn't lead to a split in the forum.

me again about the accommodation
That the ultimate problem imo.
Where to put 60 people for a weekend in KTP
And will not sleep with a group of men in a tent for a weekend
(nor with ladies  )
I want my own private space.

That is the big advantage of Kruger
Skukuza is big

btw, not being negative but the logistics are the biggest challenge
Mites will attend and so will SANparks

I put forward the point that maybe they could hold 2 weekends..... one in each place and start a new tradition in KTP..and raise more funds

Dotty i would also have liked this idea but from a Logistics and support side it is a MASSIVE request. You have to remember that it isnt just SANPARKS people that organise but an entoore committee that runs things behind the scenes.

I just think that in terms of funds for these events and the logistics it is HUGE ask.
