Have a look here Mark. And the rest of the links on that page of course.
To become an honorary ranger one must first become an applicant to the region in which one resides (see list under "Our People"). An application form must be completed, and submitted by post, fax, email to the regional executive concerned or through attendance at the monthly regional meetings. The application form (see link underneath) highlights the persons own skills, training and experience and is the contract to apply these to the needs of the South African National Parks both in the applicant's region and in National Parks.

Hey Mark,

I wanted to become one too and was wondering, what do they mean by orientation?

Ok, maybe it's not called an orientation, but it's where you're trained in the parks...
Are you becoming one next year?
Oh, wait :redface: you are one already right?

Hi AS,

Here's info on the Honorary rangers: How do I become a Junior Honorary Ranger? Junior Honorary Rangers are volunteers between the ages of 12 and 18.

Not to be confused with our kudus on the forum:

{empty space} = a member
Image = Junior Virtual Ranger
Image = Virtual Ranger
Image = Senior Virtual Ranger
Image = Veteran Virtual Ranger
Image = Honorary Virtual Ranger

Image = Moderator
Image = Guru (SANParks staff)

How voting for Kudus works

Hi AS,

It takes a year first to become a Junior HR, you first train for a year, you are classified as an Applicant Junior HR for that year, you meet every month get involved with projects in the closest SANPark to you, it's loads of fun, ask your parents to join, I think you can apply at Marakele, closest SANPark to you. Go for it!

Thanks so much for your help, but I still have one question,
Can you join for any SANPark as long as it's not on the other side of the country? :wink: Like I wanted to join Kruger instead

No you have to join a SANPark in your area, like me, I live in Cape Town so I can either be Junior HR at Table Mountain National Park or West Coast National Park. Since you live in Johannesburg you will only be able to be a Junior HR at Marakele, but Marakele is a great SANPark, it has Wild Dogs & the Big 5. So I think you'll have a lot of fun there.

Thanks, Mark, never been to Marakele before, but I'll give it a shot
